The Man from a Country That Doesn’t Exist
In July 1954, Haneda Airport in Tokyo was buzzing with international travelers. Customs officials were systematically checking passports when a tall, neatly dressed Caucasian man stepped up to the counter. He spoke fluent French, but he also knew Japanese and several other languages. He looked like an ordinary, successful businessman.
But when he handed over his passport, the official's face went completely blank.
The passport looked entirely authentic, stamped with official seals and visas from dozens of countries across Europe and Asia. The problem was the country of origin. The passport stated that the man was a citizen of Taured.
The customs officials called for a manager, insisting that there was no such country on Earth. The man became visibly angry and frustrated, claiming that Taured had existed for over a thousand years. He pulled out his wallet and showed his driver’s license, his international bank checks, and his company ID—all stamped with the name of the mysterious nation.
Desperate to solve the riddle, the officials brought out a large world map and asked the man to point to his home.
The businessman looked at the map, pointed his finger directly at the tiny European principality of Andorra, nestled between France and Spain. But when he saw the name "Andorra" printed on the paper, he stepped back in absolute shock and horror. He insisted that Andorra didn't exist, and that Taured should be right there.
Believing they were dealing with a highly sophisticated spy or a deeply delusional criminal, the Japanese authorities confiscated his documents and escorted him to a nearby luxury hotel. They placed him in a room on the high floors, locking the door and stationing two armed guards right outside the entrance.
The next morning, the police opened the door to take the man in for further interrogation.
The room was completely empty. The bed was made, and the businessman was gone. The windows were heavily locked from the inside with no signs of tampering, and there was absolutely no way he could have escaped down the smooth, sheer glass walls of the hotel skyscraper without falling to his death.
The police rushed back to the airport headquarters to check his confiscated documents, hoping to find a clue. But inside the high-security vault, a final mystery awaited them: the man's passport, his driver's license, and his checks had completely vanished from the evidence locker, leaving the Tokyo police to chase a ghost from a world that wasn't theirs.
